Compensation of Rs 50,000 to heirs of those killed in Covid is a joke: Congress
New Delhi: The Congress has lashed out at the Center for recommending an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 each to the families of those who lost their lives due to Kovid-19, saying it was a joke and a sign of the government’s arrogance and sensitivity. There is evidence. Party spokesperson Supriya Srinath urged the Center to conduct a re-survey to ascertain the exact number of deaths due to Kovid and re-identify the families concerned and compensate them to the tune of Rs 5 lakh.
The Center on Wednesday told the apex court that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) had recommended an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 to the relatives of those who lost their lives with Kovid-19. The Center said that ex-gratia funds would also be given to the heirs of those who lost their lives due to the involvement of Kovid-19 in relief operations or activities involved in the preparations for dealing with the epidemic.
“Following the court order, on September 22, 2021, the Modi government decided to release only Rs 50,000 from the state disaster fund,” he claimed. On April 8, 2015, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued revised listing and assistance rules from SDRF and NDRF, which clearly stated that the family of a person who died of any disease would be given Rs 4 lakh in addition to the remaining relief.
