Fixed Vane Pumps : Operating Structure Of Vane Pump

The vane pump is a positive displacement pump. It uses the back and forth movement of rectangular blades in the groove to move the fluid. They are sometimes called sliding vane pumps.

The slotted rotor is eccentrically supported in the cycloid cam. The rotor is located close to the cam wall, forming a crescent-shaped cavity. The rotor is sealed into the cam by two side plates. The blade or blade is installed in the slot of the impeller.

As the rotor rotates and fluid enters the pump, centrifugal force, hydraulic pressure, and/or push rods push the blades toward the wall of the housing. The tight sealing of the blade, rotor, cam and side plates is important for the good suction characteristics described in the blade suction principle.

The housing and cam press fluid into the pump chamber through holes in the cam. The fluid enters the pocket formed by the blades, rotor, cam and side plates.

As the rotor rotates, the blades sweep the fluid toward the other side of the crescent. Then, as the blade approaches the tip of the crescent, the fluid is squeezed through the discharge hole of the cam. Then the fluid is discharged from the discharge port, that is, the outlet.
