Hydrographic Printing – The Process And The Materials

 

Hydrographic printing, also known as water transfer printing, is a process that can be used to apply detailed graphics to a variety of materials. The most common use for hydrographic printing is in the automotive industry, where it is used to apply finishes to car parts. However, the process can also be used on other materials such as plastics, metals, glass, and wood. The hydrographic printing process begins with a part that has been primed and painted. A water-soluble film containing the desired graphic is then placed on top of the part. Next, the part is submerged in a water bath, which activates the film and causes the graphic to adhere to the surface. Once the graphic has been transferred, the part is then cured under ultraviolet light or heat to set the finish. Hydrographic printing is an efficient way to apply complex graphics to surfaces of all shapes and sizes.
