Runner Harmilan Bains set a new national record
Warangal: Patiala runner Harmilan Bains set a new national record in the women’s 1500 meters at the 60th National Open National Athletics Championships in Warangal on Thursday. Harmilan, 21, finished the race in 4: 05.39 minutes, breaking the 19-year-old record set by Sunita Rani (4: 06.03 minutes) at the 2002 Asian Games.
Earlier, Harmilan had given her best performance in the ODI Federation Cup Athletic Meet held at NIS Patiala on June 21. Hermione’s performance is the best in all of Asia. Harmilan’s mother Madhuri Singh Busan has won a silver medal in the Asian Games. Her father is also an athlete. In the game, Delhi’s KM Chanda finished second with a time of 4: 18.24.
Harmilan, who has topped eight national level races since January 2020, has made great strides. After taking a time of 4: 14.68 minutes at the Khel India University Games in Bhubaneswar last year, he took 4: 8.70 minutes at the Federation Cup on March 16 this year and then at 4: 08.27 minutes at the Indian Grand Prix on June 21 . She has now managed to break the national record.
