Why must we move towards gender affirmative care
Discrimination and violence against transgender individuals have grown on a global scale. With a record-breaking 375 transgender people slain in 2021, that year was known as the worst; abuse and violence have also been reported in India. I was once asked to describe a Tripura incidence for a group of four bullied transwomen friends in January 2022 while working at HST as a Bengali. Even after they admitted to being women, the police ridiculed, starved, interrogated, forced them to strip naked to reveal their “true gender,” and then transferred them to the men’s cell.
