Examples of perfectionism
Perfectionism can appear in many everyday situations. A student may rewrite an assignment repeatedly, afraid of making even small grammar mistakes. A worker might delay submitting a report because it doesn’t feel “perfect,” even when it is complete. Some people spend excessive time editing emails or messages before sending them. Others avoid starting projects altogether, fearing they won’t meet high standards. In hobbies, a person may restart drawings or workouts repeatedly until everything feels flawless. Even in relationships, perfectionism can show as overthinking conversations or trying to always say the “right” thing. These behaviors often cause stress and slow progress.
